Within its definition of Iconoclasm, Wikipedia notes:

…”iconoclasts”, a term that has come to be applied figuratively to any individual who challenges established dogma or conventions.

Let’s face it, the technology sector thrives on pushing ever increasing sales of hardware and software. In its list of priorities, maximising the returns from your large investments, at best, comes a very poor third.
